Why can my landlord raise my rent by any amount in Ontario?
If your unit was first occupied for residential purposes after November 15, 2018, it's exempt from Ontario's rent-increase guideline, so there's no percentage cap. The landlord still needs to give 90 days' written notice and can only increase once every 12 months.

This exemption is why many tenants in newer buildings face large increases. Your security of tenure and all other RTA protections still apply — the exemption is only from the guideline percentage.
