Does my landlord have to give me a rent receipt in Ontario?
Yes. On request, your Ontario landlord must give you a free rent receipt — and this applies even after you've moved out, for up to 12 months after the tenancy ends. They can't charge you for it.

A receipt should show the address, what the payment was for, the amount, the date, and the landlord's name. Receipts are useful proof for the LTB, for benefits and taxes, and if a payment is ever disputed.
