How much deposit can a landlord charge in Alberta?
No more than one month's rent as of the start of the tenancy. Alberta doesn't allow a separate additional pet deposit on top — the total security (damage) deposit is capped at one month's rent, and it must be held in an interest-bearing trust account.

The landlord must pay interest at the prescribed rate, and generally return the deposit or provide a written statement of deductions within 10 days of move-out.
