Can I sublet or assign my lease in Quebec?
Yes. You notify the landlord with the proposed tenant's details, and they have 15 days to respond. They can only refuse for a serious reason — and if they don't respond in 15 days, they're deemed to consent. Assigning (cession de bail) releases you from the lease; subletting keeps you responsible.

The landlord can only charge reasonable expenses (like a credit check), not a fee or higher rent for agreeing. For a permanent move, assignment is usually the better choice because it ends your obligations.
