Can my landlord enter without notice in New York?

New York has no fixed statewide notice period, but a landlord must give reasonable advance notice (commonly treated as about 24 hours) and may enter only for a legitimate reason at a reasonable time — never without cause. Your lease or a local rule (such as in New York City) may set specifics, and emergencies are the exception.

Because there's no hard statutory number, get the notice requirement written into your lease and ask for notice in writing. A landlord who enters repeatedly without reasonable notice can breach your right to quiet enjoyment.
